Background

Before starting New Paradigm, Marieke was a lawyer at the Zuidas for more than ten years. In her more than eight years at NautaDutilh, her practice focused on (international) dispute resolution, climate liability and sustainable and responsible business advisory.

Between 2020 and 2022, she worked in NautaDutilh’s New York office, where she focused on building the international ESG practice. Prior to that, in 2019, Marieke was seconded to Cravath, a leading New York law firm. From 2015 to 2017, she was a board member of the Amsterdam Young Bar Association.

Marieke was part of the pro bono team that supported the Urgenda Foundation in its groundbreaking lawsuit against the Dutch State, in which the State was ultimately ordered by the highest court to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% (compared to 1990 levels) by the end of 2020.

In 2020, Marieke was awarded the one-time Resilience Award at the Golden Hourglass Awards for creating a platform to provide free legal support to SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marieke received her LL.B (hons.) and LL.M from the University of Utrecht (2012). She also obtained a Masters in Management from London Business School in 2013.
